Course and eligibility
The B.Sc. Nautical Science is commonly entered after Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, along with medical fitness and eyesight standards. Admissions to many programmes are linked to the Indian Maritime University common entrance test (checked 2026-10-28).
Maritime training institutes must be approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, which also publishes warnings about unapproved institutes. Always verify approval before paying fees.
Life at sea
Contracts can last several months, followed by leave ashore. The career rewards discipline, teamwork and comfort with long periods away from home.
