How do you choose a stream after Class 10 when the student has no clear interest yet?

Choose on how the student works, not on what they claim to like. Interest at 15 is usually a reflection of exposure, and exposure is uneven. A behavioural read of how a student handles detail, ambiguity, people and pressure predicts stream fit better than a subject preference formed in one good teacher's classroom.

Interest is a lagging indicator

Students report interest in subjects they have been taught well and by teachers they liked. That is useful information about teaching, and weak information about aptitude.

Observe instead how the student behaves: do they finish things, do they ask why, do they prefer working alone, how do they respond when the first attempt fails?

Compare on consequences, not labels

Science, commerce and humanities are not tiers. Each opens and closes specific routes at the next decision point, and those consequences are what should be compared.

Write out, for each stream, two courses, two entrance requirements and two first jobs. The decision usually becomes obvious once it is concrete.

Keep the reversal cost low

Where the decision is genuinely close, pick the option with the cheaper reversal, and plan a review point at the end of Class 11.

Reviewing a decision is normal. Discovering in Class 12 that no one ever reviewed it is the expensive version.
