What this career looks like in India
Chartered accountancy in India is regulated by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Work runs across statutory audit, direct and indirect tax, transaction advisory, internal audit and controllership. Articleship decides early specialisation: Big Four and large domestic firms push audit and tax, while industry articleship leans towards finance operations. Practice and employment are both viable long-term routes, and many CAs move into CFO tracks.
How to get in
Register for the ICAI Foundation after Class 12 (or take the direct-entry route after graduation), clear Intermediate, complete three years of articleship, then clear the Final examination. There is no alternative qualification for signing statutory audits in India.
